How to Winterize Summer Clothes and Stay Warm

Whomever said it’s worth it to sacrifice comfort for fashion is doing it wrong. Which is probably why I need to be a designer so we can all be stylish 24/7. One of the most important things is comfort while still being stylish. That’s kind of a huge point behind this blog, to show it’s possible to live a stylish motherhood. I absolutely hate being uncomfortable in clothes when I’m with the kids, because they are my main focus, I don’t want to be thinking about how uncomfortable something is, or if a heel is too high or too hard to run in. It needs to be effortless… 100% chic, but effortless.

When it’s freezing out, people seem to go two ways. Freezing their bum off and uncomfortable, or slouchy and sloppy. You don’t have to do either, and the number one way is to layer. This is probably why I love fall and winter so much, because I love layering all kinds of styles and textures. I do this because I am usually always cold, and something I will never do is suffer and be freezing for a certain look. I will alter and adapt to the weather.

I was in line at a store the other day, and the girls behind me were talking about their New Year’s Eve outfits. One was asking what shoes she was going to wear, and the other said ‘I’m going to wear those strappy ones… I’ll be freezing but I don’t care’. What? NO. I care. Because that sounds super painful. If you can’t find a reasonable shoe (there are a ton out there and for super cheap, just go to Target), then layer some socks at least. That’s in now anyway, and if it wasn’t who cares, make it interesting! And when in doubt, keep your whole leg warm with over the knee boots!

So let’s talk about a few ways to winterize your summer clothes.

-You can always add black opaque tights to just about anything any color

-Wear a sheer turtleneck under a dress to make it somewhat of a jumper/school girl concept

-Add a lace turtleneck to any outfit, under any sweater, or with any dress. You are introducing another texture and maybe even changing up the entire look for the better!

-Wear sheer socks with pumps or even sandals. The trend right now are socks with platform sandals like I did here.

-If you are wanting to wear a light dress or even pulling out something for warmer weather, add over the knee boots and a moto jacket and make it a winter look.

-Add a neckscarf to keep your neck warm

-Wearing an oversized scarf and keeping it on is ok to make that your look!

-Find a great pair of colored leather gloves!

-Invest in a suede or leather moto jacket and you can add that to anything when cold!

One last thing, my favorite over the knee boots are on sale right now, and now is the time to get them. They are so worth it, I have them in 2 colors. They are originally $148, use code JOY30, and that makes them $104! They are the most flattering over the knee boots for literally any bodytype and leg. At first I thought they might not flatter me because I have bigger thighs but they seriously fit like a glove. They do this for everyone regardless of their size! They are great with dresses, worn with tights, or over a skinny jean! Shop them in BLACK, CAMEL, or GREY. Make sure you size up because they run small. I am a true 8 and I ordered size 40 and they are perfect. Email me if you have any questions! You can shop my over the knee boots below along with a few dress options to mine (this Madewell one just sold out).
