The Layering Game

Hi, I’m Mireille and I’m 100% obsessed with layering. Anything. Even when it’s 90 degrees, I’ll try, so you can imagine how much I really love fall and winter because then I’m at least not sweating. I think the layered look is the most sophisticated if done right and the most fun. But it does have to be done right, or you risk looking sloppy or mismatched. It’s kind of hard to explain my method and reasoning with some of the layering rules I live by, so my conclusion is that you just continue to follow me haha, and form your own conclusion.

Let’s talk about today’s outfit. My favorite is the grey pencil skirt and how easy it is to layer it. I love a good pencil skirt and this grey pencil skirt is so affordable and honestly so comfortable. Like I find my self wanting to wear it around the house and then I remember I have kids that I chase up and down the stairs… so it’s just for outings. It definitely doesn’t provide a lot of structure, so if you have curves, just embrace them, or wear spanx to help you out a little bit. My point is that you are not going to get a lot of help from the skirt itself, but the comfort wins on this, and so does the flexibility it provides. I love the length and the fact that you can pull it up and wear it high on your waist. When looking for a pencil skirt, this is the length I look for because it’s most flattering; you don’t want it to hit right at your knee or above it (unless you are going way above for a mini skirt look). The grey pencil skirt is a big closet staple item that will go with anything and everything and a must in my book. My button down shirt is so fun with pups on it and perfect for layering under sweaters or jackets, so as not to be so loud like ‘hi, I’m wearing dogs on my shirt’. I usually save my denim jackets for spring and summer, but it seemed like the perfect addition and material for this outfit. It is literally the perfect layer for crisp fall weather that isn’t too hot or too cold yet. I added my favorite Chloe + Isabel tortoise necklace (it’s convertible) and one of my favorite statement necklaces. You can shop it HERE through my friend Heather! Lastly, these velvet sock boots are major statement boots and from last year, but I found them HERE for $34! The boots also come in black velvet and there are a few other awesome statement boots like these, for super cheap! My advice is that although I subscribe to investing in shoes and boots, you shouldn’t pay a lot for a trend like that, so find them at an affordable price and just have fun with it.

This is probably the last round of long hair outfit pics you will see, sorry for any confusion ha! If you have any questions about my tape-in extensions, let me know! If you scroll to the bottom, you will see I switched out my grey pencil skirt for stirrup leggings for a different look option. My new blog layout is almost done, so it will be easy to navigate certain topics very soon! You can shop all outfit details below!
