This is Halloween: Cute Outfit and Craft Ideas With Kids

I absolutely love Halloween and love how it can transform through all phases of your life. As a kid, it’s all about the dressing up and trick-or-treat. As a teen, Halloween is all about the scary movies and beginning of parties. In college, it takes on an entirely different life completely… everything from themed parties to dressing up as crazy as possible. As an adult before kids, Halloween becomes about the adult themed parties and the food. Now we are parents… so what is Halloween? What is our role in it? What’s crazy is that I used to love dressing up as ridiculous as possible, and now, it’s honestly all about my kids. Halloween is now all about the crafts, cute food ideas in crazy shapes (anything to get them to eat, right?!), DIY costumes, cute homemade decor that is sprinkled all around your house, and of course, eating your children’s candy! Halloween pretty much comes back around full circle with a slightly different viewpoint.

One thing I love to do during the whole month of October is dress the kids up in festive outfits that double as cute, and can be worn anywhere! We had a photoshoot in partnership with local Hotel Avalon for a festive fall feel, and these Mini Boden outfits were perfect for it. It wasn’t necessarily a cheap polyester costume either, but the chicest mix of colors and kids favorites! We love the unique brand Boden in general, and for Halloween, they have truly the best looking festive clothes for their kids’ line, Mini Boden. I love their theme ‘if you dream it, then you can be it!’, something we definitely encourage in our own parenting style. You’ll see from their choices it’s all about ‘Live Now’ and speaks to kids from their selection, they know what kids love. Here’s an example, Elston is obsessed with cats and there are so many classy cat dresses, and the same goes for Jackson’s love for large graphics on his shirt. Seriously, Mini Boden is the only place I love the designs for that kind of kid’s clothing!

Jackson is obsessed with dinosaurs, so he is loving this glow-in-the dark shirt that he also wears with his favorite bright blue corduroys. All we will need to add for actual Halloween is a dino head or mask! Elston is the perfect Rainbow Brite that can also be used for a unicorn costume, which we will probably do after one of her favorite books, Uni the Unicorn. Mini Boden is perfect for costume ideas that can also be worn in every day life. I love the colorful selection they have for kids’ clothes in general and the brand is always well-made and quality! Both of the kids’ boots are Boden and they will be wearing them all winter.

You can shop everything here: (all sizing runs TTS)

Elston’s: rainbow dress | rainbow hat | rainbow socks | red boots

Jackson’s: dinosaur (glow-in-the-dark) tee | corduroy pants | desert boots | blue/neon hat

I also love decorating the house in the same manner, chic but festive. Over the years I have been collecting fabric pumpkins of all colors and although it’s so pretty, I think the kids think they are boring lol. Jackson is into this holiday too and would probably prefer a themed way of dressing every day! He has been asking for more decorations, and every time I bring home a pumpkin, he wants to be able to add more decor too. When we got home from our fall photos, we made an easy craft decor that I thought was adorable and the kids ended up loving. Halloween paper garland is quick, easy, and actually a great aesthetic because it can be whatever you want it to be! We made candy corn garland and honestly looks better than anything I’ve seen in stores! I have a quick step by step below!

  1. cut colored construction paper into circles:  orange – largest, yellow – a little smaller, white – smallest
  2. then into small triangles so they look like pizza slices
  3. glue the yellow to the orange, then the little white triangle on the yellow
  4. hole punch on both sides
  5. string rope or string through each side
