There are a million cute outfits out there, a ton of chunky sweaters, and shimmery tops that will always work for a holiday outfit. But every now and then, a piece of clothing will come along that is special and this velvet top is one of those times. It’s definitely unique in style but there are a few ways to wear it to make it work. I didn’t wear a bra with it because, well, I don’t need to wear bras ha… but if you do, I would go with a white or black lace bralette. The top is a little short but is perfect for any kind of high waist pant or jean, I just wouldn’t wear it with anything low-rise. A few other ways to wear it is you could put a collared button up under it for a different kind of look, or a complete lace turtleneck. I would also love to pair it with a high waist sequin pencil skirt!
If you need ideas for the perfect holiday outfit, try thinking a little outside the box. You don’t need a typical sleeveless dress. You can try plaid with sequins, full tulle skirts with plaid tops, sparkly sweaters with dark denim. For some reason, I have always preferred to wear pants with dressy tops or sweaters, and always adding a pump or heel. And if in doubt, wear velvet!! You can shop my outfit below in my ‘shop the post’ widget under the pics. My shoes are Vivienne Hu clear pumps and are a designer I am loving that I saw recently this year at NYFW in September. I am so honored to be wearing them as the Vivienne Hu team sent them over!
Let’s review: When looking for your holiday outfit, you don’t need a fancy or expensive dress that you might not wear again. (If you want a dress, I always suggest Shein.com because they are trendy but inexpensive) Try going with a dressy top that you will wear again, pair with plain jeans or pants that you love, and top it all off with statement earrings or shoes. And do something fun and different with your hair! Have fun with holiday looks because it’s the one time of year that you can and should!
I hope everyone is having a great week, we are so busy over here! We are shooting some family photos today for a few campaigns and I’m going to take the best shot out of all of these, make it our holiday card, and call it a day! Ha! But seriously, I ran around this morning like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to load up the car with everyone’s outfits, props, snacks, shoes, etc. and off to take the kids to school because I’m not going home before we shoot. I also actually got to shower this morning while the kids ate breakfast which never happens! I swear the entire time I almost had a heart attack trying to listen for them to scream that Georgia ate someone’s waffle or for someone climbing over the baby gate. But thankfully, all was calm for 7 minutes and I got to wash my hair. Whew, do I sound like a crazed lunatic or what? Well, this is our life for now and honestly, I love it. Head on over to Instagram today for behind the scenes at our day, as well as tomorrow, where I am doing something I am SO excited about!
