Most of you remember gaucho pants, and most of you had a pair. In the early millenium, I had a stretchy brown pair (oh god that sounds ugly) and I remember most people made fun of them. But who cares in the name of fashion, wear what you want whether it’s in style or not if you love it!

So if you want to try these ‘new age’ culottes, here is what to take into consideration. Look for a trouser fit on the top half, so that it structures you well. You can go with an actual pant material or something a little more flowy like silk or rayon. If you try the latter, it could look like a midi-skirt and really flatter because it’s falling around you and not really hugging any curves.

Also, something to consider when wearing culottes, it can highlight your ankles, making your legs look thinner (it’s all about optical illusion), so choose a flattering shoe (nothing too clunky).

I would also stick with a fitted and shorter top as opposed to something long or too flowy with your culottes. You will find that these old school/new school pants are so comfortable, on trend, and you can have a lot more freedom to move than if you were in a skirt!

If you are over summer like I am, you could plan this culottes outfit for fall and wear a tall heel boot and a crop jacket!
