Flower Children and How to Eat With Kids
I am going to knock out two topics today; one of Atlanta’s hip new restaurants and eating with kids… well three topics because this top is super cute! So all of my favorite things, my babies, food, and fashion! Last week we had a lunch date at Flower Child, new to the Atlanta area right outside of Lenox Mall. This place is amazing! So my quick disclaimer is that I couldn’t quite be 100% Keto there, but it’s not too far off track and you can definitely find items on their menu that would follow the Keto diet for sure. But I didn’t want to because here is what I ate… because sometimes you just gotta eat what you love! (and as long as I’m leading a super healthy lifestyle, indulging in your favorite meals is what life is all about)
I had the Heirloom tomato toast, a hardboiled egg and avocado toast, and the Forbidden Rice Bowl (adding shaved beef). It all was so amazingly good. What I like about this restaurant is that it’s gluten free and uses all natural ingredients. So if you are health conscious and are a foodie, this is the place for you. The heirloom tomato toast was absolutely insane; so good with a schmear of goat cheese underneath! In the rice bowl was wild rice with a bit of a kick in taste, and the shaved beef was so tender and flavorful. I also love how they have a few items for kids’ meals, all pretty healthy. We got the chicken breast with parmesan broccoli with sides of mandarin oranges and apples.
Last but certainly not least if you know me at all, is the dessert. We tried everything and it was incredible. So it’s all made with cane sugar, which is fine. But this is where on Keto, you really can’t stay on it, but it’s a treat well worth it. I say that because if I’m going to have sugar, I would rather it be with something homemade and all natural ingredients. Their desserts are all gluten free as well. We tried the lemon muffin, rich brownie, and chocolate chip cookie. Everything was seriously so good, the brownie was all of our favorite. It was so rich in the middle, it was the perfect texture!
So this is how we continue to manage eating with kids. We go to fun and loud places of course, where it’s not a big deal if they are loud or can walk around a little. I put everything out on the plate and continue a dialogue around food with them, that we do at home. We don’t just say ‘eat your food’ or ‘eat your veggies’, but try to explain why we want them to. I always tell Jackson what is healthy and good for him and why, and then I tell him what has too much sugar and why it’s not good for us. We just want them to have explanations of why we want them to eat certain things. And I try not to get complicated, I understand that they only know so much about the world, but break it down as simply as we can. I do explain when certain desserts are ok, like fruit being sweet, and then a sugary cereal. We let them have tastes of all the dessert with us, which they loved, and Jackson seems to appreciate it. But let me tell you, he has my sweet tooth and probably not a lot of self control, which is why I can’t put it all out together like our pediatrician suggests. I still have to hoard and hide the sweets until they have eaten a decent amount of their regular dinner, I mean we aren’t robots for goodness sake! haha. We still struggle with the kids only wanting snacks and sugar, but I make a conscious effort… ok obsessive effort… to have my kids eat healthy.
Now we can talk about this outfit. I paired my favorite white jeans that fit like a dream with this special little tutti fruitti top. I’m so into hoop earrings right now so I threw those into the mix. I’m always asked about these bow flats which are old from Zara. I have found a few similar in style for you that I absolutely love and recommend, so will link those in the ‘shop the post’ below.
