Fringe Sleeves

Sometimes you just have to spice up your wardrobe with details that you love. And for me, that is anything with ruffles, shimmer, fringe, or pom poms. Today’s top is a little different but it caught my eye and reminded me of baton twirlers. This fringe sleeve top is actually a bodysuit which don’t always do well for long-torso people like myself, but I went for it. The fringe sleeve is of course not practical but looks cute, and sometimes, you don’t have to be able to grocery shop in something!

I’m wearing a favorite pair of Madewell denim that have the perfect rise and the perfect ankle length. I’ve raved about these jeans before, but if you haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend!

I topped off this outfit with one of my mom’s vintage coats. I have worn this for years ever since she first gave it to me in college. It’s so special and I just love vintage anything. I love the story it carries, whether you know it or not. If you don’t have anything handed down to you, do you know the secret of shopping consignment? I do love the thrill of the hunt, so I do understand it’s not for everyone.

But here’s a few insider secrets. In order to get a great deal, frequent your local consignment shop and get a feel for how things are consigned there. Pay attention to what brands do well there, what leaves the racks/shelves quicker than other things, and if they do sell designer. Sometimes there are truly shops that don’t know what gems they have. I have found some not as well known, high end brands on just regular racks! And sometimes they do have specific racks dedicated to older vintage, or higher prices name brands. There is usually a designated place for designer bags as well. The key is how long something has been living there. There is no way around it. The longer it’s been there, the more discounted it will be. Take into account the part of town the shop is in as well. Sometimes, just the demographic can alter what stays longer than others. Different people are interested in different items. This was helpful when I found my fur coat. So, obviously, people don’t wear/shop/own real fur as much in the south. For this reason, a lot of times, fur coats will sit in consignment stores for sometimes up to years! When I found mine, it was 70% off the consignment price! I ended up getting a quality fox fur coat for under $99, and the original price was probably somewhere around $700-$1000. And of course, fur is controversial, but my stance on it is: it’s already going to be sitting in a store. It already had a few lives lived in it… quite literally. It is truly the only thing that keeps me warm in the winter, and I fit right in when I wear it in New York. And I got an amazing deal. I’ve also snapped up a few designer handbags, shoes, and blouses at consignment. I absolutely love it and will always continue to incorporate vintage in my wardrobe. I am thankful my mom saved things for me too, and I have already started to save my own favorites for Elston. It’s the {clothing} circle of life!

Let me know if you have any questions about shopping, or even shopping for vintage and designer! I love it and want you to love it too!
