Hilton Sandestin: Quick and Easy Vacation with kids
If you followed along on stories, we snuck away to Destin at the very end of September, to Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa. It was a wonderful trip that my kids needed. Robert stayed back to take care of house stuff, where basically we had showings like crazy, and inspections etc. happening on a new house. It was nice to get the kids out of the house and to just have a carefree weekend. Destin is about 5.5 hours from us here at the top of the Atlanta suburbs, so the drive is not bad at all. I took my big sister with me, and they had an adjoining room next to ours, so we couldn’t really ask for a more easy stay with kids.
Hilton Sandestin
I’ve stayed here before a few years ago on a PR trip that made me just fall in love with the property and the area. You can find my older post HERE. I knew I wanted to come back with the kids because I saw how kid friendly the hotel was, that feels like an actual resort. There are bunk beds in the towers rooms where we stayed (always a win), a really good breakfast buffet area with seating, 3 different pools (one is indoor), and an outdoor restaurant. Something I love is that there is a really nice restaurant (Seagar’s) along with a spa on the bottom level, if you happen to travel without kids, or if you can get away for a bit.
A huge exciting plus for me, is that across the street from the gated property, is a BlackBear Coffee! This is my absolute favorite coffee shop, that started in Grayton Beach, and they opened up one right in Sandestin. Definitely worth checking out and stopping in if you haven’t tried it, or even if you have. This location is quaint, and not crazy busy… I still got the same amazing Stumptown latte! Part of what I love about this area of Destin is that you can enjoy the beautiful water and white sand, in a great area with a ton of families. This is also a great option to be close to 30A at an affordable rate, and still have access to everything along the gulf coast that we all love.
You definitely should know that they are taking Covid procedures seriously, and I felt safe and at ease with how they are handling everything. This is why this is a perfect getaway with kids right now, if you have a few days to get out of town. If you’re in Atlanta, it’s close enough to make it a weekend, and just enjoy the beach. The Hilton Sandestin requires masks to be worn inside, in the lobby, and walking to all restaurants. For check in, and everything else that requires a line, there are signs up to maintain a distance. You can elect to not have cleaners in and out of your room, and an option just grab fresh towels. We did have a beach set up during the day, and as it got busier, felt a bit crowded on the actual beach, but everyone was just doing their own thing and was fine for me. I’ve been very careful and paranoid with a baby, so I’m letting you know from my own experience, I was comfortable with everything.
One night we stayed on the beach until sunset and ordered dinner from Barefoot’s Beachside Outdoor Grill, brought food to our towels, and just let the kids eat and run around until they got tired. We got to witness a wedding that day, and while we walked up, the reception was just starting on the back deck. The kids tried to attend lol.
If you are interested in checking out the property, click HERE, they have a great website with a ton of pics. You can also get a feel for the layout and area, it truly is exactly how it looks online, only more magical when you are actually there at the ocean.
