How to get an upscale staple wardrobe
High waist anything, button details, colors everyone looks good in; adopting that upbeat flow as the weather allows us to stop shivering in our clothes and pay attention to the details that so make an outfit. These are not only the topics of a trend season, but answers to the never ending question most of us have when the seasons change and we start looking at our closet asking, ‘what do I wear now’?
Building a wardrobe is something I love to talk about and encourage you guys to think about. I think you are most happy with your closet and outfitting when you put thought into the items you buy: how they can go with other things you already have, making sure you love the item on you and not just on who you see it on, and choosing relevant pieces for the season.
Upscale Wardrobe Staples
Today I am bringing you spring staples with LOFT, and know that these pieces are things that will work in everyone’s wardrobe. In most parts of the US, Spring quickly goes into summer and you don’t want to regret those purchases or even spur of the moment outfit choices. I encourage your clothes to be able to take you all the way to the end of summer, even if it means adding a swimsuit to what you already have, or being able to feel comfortable in the same pair of pants on a hot summer night as you did on a chilly spring day.
I took a few classic items from LOFT and their lounge brand Lou & Grey (who I just love btw) and created outfits that you will be able to go to lunch in, hop in carpool in, attend a Zoom meeting, pack for the beach, wear on a summer night, and layer over anything you are already wearing.
I am always drawn to beige and creams, and I try to brighten them by adding anything white when I wear them, or adding a soft color like terracotta (to me a wonderful color for spring, summer, and even fall )! Are you starting to see how to think intentionally with your wardrobe? Let’s chat about the items.
Gingham screams warm weather and what better way to do that with comfort and coolness than with linen! I love an elastic waist, wide leg pant for warm weather that you can throw on literally anytime, and still look put together. These have a cute top that go with them, but they are great to pair with any tank, sweater or henley. I wanted to show you these henleys because everyone needs a henley. It’s truly the best item to go with a pair of jeans or shorts, and my favorite to throw over a bathing suit and be ready to go… anywhere lol. I chose my regular size in the pants, washed them and completely dried them, so that they would shrink a little bit (note that linen will do this if you dry it completely). You know I love a hemline that is a bit above my ankles, making these pants exactly what I need to wear a cute pair of sandals, but not get in the way of walking when I’m with the kids. I had a pair of Lou & Grey pants a few years ago and the fit was always my absolute favorite, so I always jump on similar from this brand because I still wear them years later.
I paired these henleys with a classic pair of white jeans HERE in a post last week, and will wear my henleys over swim at the beach and also with denim shorts.
This cardigan sweater is an absolute staple, you can wear it open or as an actual top. Right now, it’s the perfect clothing item while it’s still chilly out for Spring, but you are in the mood to transition to lighter colors and fabrics. I wanted to show it to you with shorts, and then a pair of colored denim (stay tuned for that post next week) to show you how versatile a simple sweater can be. The way I think about LOFT is quality staples that are truly perfect for each season, and always fitting for the seasonal trend. I then like to have fun with adding jewelry, bags, and shoes, but LOFT always leaves me feeling on trend without sacrificing comfort. It’s possible to take staples and make them feel high fashion!
I encourage you to think about the clothes you have, and what you love. If it’s comfort, focus on movable pants and add something fancy in your shoe or jewelry. Here are a list of the staples I recommend for this warm season that I’m showing you today.
- Gingham
- Linen or wide leg flowy pants
- Matching sets
- Comfortable shorts
- Henleys
- A summer sweater (it’s a thing and everyone needs one) – usually cotton, chunky knit
