Kid-Friendly Healthyish Snack Ideas: Apple Donuts
I am on a never ending quest to find food my kids will eat, that I’m also ok with. Trust me in that this takes up the majority of my parenthood worrying, time, and energy. Lately, they have been asking to do ‘cooking shows’ where they do it themselves and they get so excited about it. And they also always ask for snacks, so here is a great snack idea for a rainy day…. and you can’t go wrong throwing sprinkles in the mix!
This is easy for our kids to grasp and help, and then fun for them to make as well. So I make this apple dip regularly and I decided to make it for them to use as an icing. It’s a cream cheese base, so although it does have sugar, I figured it’s better than actual icing. And I try to use the most clean ingredients when we do anything, so as long as it’s clean, it’s going to be better snack ideas than what’s out there. Recipe below!
Apple Dip Donut recipe:
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup cane sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 package of Philadelphia cream cheese (do NOT ever use low-fat, it’s gross and the consistency will not be the same)
TIPS:
{Double the recipe if you want more, which I do when I take it to parties, but I also lessen the sugar a little even when doubling.
I only use granny smith apples because you need a tart apple to counteract the very sweet dip. I also sometimes soak them in pineapple juice to keep them from browning, and I just like the distinct taste of that too.}
