Mom-life: But Make It Fashion

You know I intend to do just that! And that goes for any outfit I put together, I always have in the back of my mind… ‘Can I wear this around the kids’? My hope is to always inspire you to think outside the box and be your source of inspiration when getting dressed… instead of a rack or window display. While great, it’s usually geared towards the masses, and sometimes towards people that don’t want to branch out and be different. But I know you come here because you are the opposite… you know I am the opposite. So my outfitting dreams for us both are those that are eye-catching and fun, yet most will be wearable in many circumstances. My most important one is around my kids. They are 3 and 5, so I need to be able to run, pivot, and leap on command. I need to like my outfit, but also be ok if I get dirty hands smeared on it. For so long, I didn’t wear rompers or dresses because I was nursing, so I would subconsciously take that into account in my entire wardrobe. Let’s start with the right mom jeans… they’ve got to be the perfect fit!

A few things I love that are easy to throw on and almost a ‘safe’ pick are a great fitting jean. I have a few, and all of them are high-rise at the moment. I have my Madewell ones that I love, and then I have these mom jeans Levi’s that are just so comfortable. I love the mom jeans trend look right now, so these are comfortable and relevant right now, and the Levi’s being really fashion forward right now. I have actually wondered while wearing these, (when I was at a school function for the kids, with a few moms that were older and just not into fashion) if I looked like I was a frumpy mom from the 80’s with these mom jeans… unironic or iconic? I’m not sure what I looked like in that setting, but oh well. I wear what I like anyway!

This sequin shirt is an example of something so glitz and glam, yet a functional shirt, making it easy to wear. I wore it to a birthday party at Monkey Joe’s (a jump place). I tucked it in for a finished look, and feel like it just creates an on trend but not overdressed outfit because I paired it with casual jeans. These boots were my favorite from this winter, and I have a pair below that are the spring version if you’re interested. Shoe booties will be relevant all spring and summer because they look so cute with short dresses! I finished it off with a mom-bag that every mom needs to consider. I highly recommend your mom-bag be fabulous. It will be filled with crumbs, snacks, micro machines, barbies, underwear, Happy Meal toys, bent straws, etc. etc. So at least feel like you have it together and are a million bucks with your bag. I feel very strongly about this and think investing in a designer bag that you carry all the time everywhere, is so worth it. It’s worth it in price because you will use it for everything but it’s also worth how it will elevate any outfit!
