NYFW 2018: Nicole Miller
My first day in New York, I jumped off the plane and I took a cab straight to the Nicole Miller showroom. This was an absolutely surreal experience because not only was I going to the show that night, they wanted to dress me! Since my entire Fashion Week was a time crunch, there was no time to drop off my bags. I went straight up the elevator to the showroom, two spinner suitcases and all. I got to choose from a few different items that they chose from their samples closet. Yes, just like Devil Wears Prada, those closets are real. I chose this jumpsuit and it was so perfect because she was doing a lot of sports striped detailing on collars and sleeves this season. I layered my own sheer top under it (from Zara) and went with a low heeled black boot. These pants were for sure designed for someone 6 foot or taller, but they worked and will work with a higher heel. I was not about to go walking the NY streets in a high heel though, I had to think practical!
The show room was calm with an organized buzz of everyone getting ready for the show that night. I was met with a beautiful front lobby with mannequins wearing the latest designs and a gallery wall that was just the coolest ode to Nicole Miller’s career. Every now and then I would see someone running from one end to the other with a determined excitement. Behind the wall I could hear the girls lining the show and organizing each look to each model’s photo that would wear it that night. It was amazing just to be standing there. I chose my outfit, took a peek into the sample closet, and left, not wanting to get in the way of the huge show prep. Back at the hotel I finally got to check in and Katie and I shot my first look that I posted yesterday, chatted with some other blogger friends that she was shooting at our hotel, then sat down for lunch! After that I went to go get ready for the pre-events, which I was honored to be able to go backstage with MaryKay as all the models got their hair and makeup done. While backstage, I met Nicole Miller. I turned around and she was there, so I figured, YOLO, why not. I introduced myself and told her I have admired her for years. I watched my mom, who was always a Nicole Miller fan and always wore her, get dressed when I was younger, playing in all the clothes. Her name was nothing new to me. The torch was eventually passed on to me as I started to pay attention and then really be immersed in the fashion world. I told her it was an honor to meet her and so respected to witness and now be a part of something she has built. She was very gracious and was probably wondering who in the world I was, but she loved my outfit and how I styled it nonetheless, so it was a life highlight!
The show was incredible, I loved reading about the inspiration for the show and seeing it come to life. I got to sit front row and just had the most incredible night of my life! Scroll below my outfit shots for runway shots and a little peek into the Nicole Miller show!
