Taking Fashion Risks: How To Spice Up an Outfit in Fun Ways
The topic of How to Spice Up an Outfit was a requested one from my instagram poll, and actually came in so many words. You all asked about taking risks and wearing different/funky pieces. You definitely don’t have to go off the deep end and feel uncomfortable or not even like yourself. Think about your favorite items in your closet, your go-tos. Then think about putting it with something new, as in different than what you usually pair it with. (like purple pants!) I always suggest going to funky boutique sites like BURU, or even Shein, to try something at an inexpensive level. Zara is always my favorite for ‘funky’ pieces that are just different and just usually so beautiful to me. I could wear only Zara forever. Another place I love is ASOS, they have everything, and organize their site by themes too. Or just type in something you love, like ‘ruffles’, or in my case, it’s usually shimmer or sequins haha! I also suggest trying local consignment stores because you will usually find beautiful over the top items that are great prices. Then if you pair them with your favorite blue jeans, you are stepping up your usual style, but it’s taking a risk.
Once, I had a friend come over and we were standing in my closet and she was just looking at my clothes making a passive observation, and was like ‘your clothes have so much color and texture’. Which I loved. That is exactly what I’m drawn to when it comes to clothing items, is texture. I of course love color but I also love playing with no color at all too. The consistent thing is that I love all kinds of textures. And you can never go wrong with sequins or something shimmery, so if you want to spice it up, just go for that and break out your jeans and favorite pair of pumps.
How to Spice Up an Outfit: the Go-To Things I’m Always Drawn To:
the color hot pink in any kind of clothing item, anything shiny, side buttons, nude pumps always, oversized turtlenecks, anything exaggerated!
I have been loving lilac for a while, and am just still drawn to this color. I am going to pair it with every color possible, and it was also on Who What Wear’s list for ‘it’ colors this winter. I mean, duh. You will be seeing more of it here because some of my favorite things in my closet that have been for years are lilac, and I’m about to order this coat from BURU! I guess I have a thing for purple pants at the moment, but they are unexpected yet still a great color!
