The 5 Items You Need For Spring

Sometimes when we transition into seasons, certain ‘it’ items make their way across stores and our social media and it can feel overwhelming. What do we really need, what is a passing trend, what do you really want to spend money on, and what can we pull from our own closets? What exactly do I look for in staple items? I have rounded up the main things you will need this spring to get you through and still look completely on-trend and fabulous.

The White Dress:

Every single person needs a white dress on hand, and the perfect time to wear one is starting out in spring with a great denim jacket and then into summer! Whether it’s eyelet, linen, or just cotton, any kind of white dress is perfect. I personally like a few (obvi), but I like to have one that is more structured and could pass as dressier, and then more of a flowy casual one that could also be worn as a cover up over a swimsuit, and just feel easier to move around in.

A Round Bag:

This ‘it bag’ style is still all the rage and you need to have one! I have found great ones in all price ranges! You know what I always say about accessories: invest in shoes or a bag, so this is where it could be worth splurging a little bit. The Clare V bag was big last year and is definitely back, so if you do want it, now is the time to get it because it was sold out pretty much all year last year! It comes in a large version and a small, so small is a great little price for a bag you will carry until fall! I have found a ton of other options though of all price-points!

Espadrilles:

Espadrilles are huge every spring, and there are some really great ones coming out. My all-time favorites are the Marc Fisher wedge (so many styles HERE) because of the look and feel. They are hands-down the most comfortable heel I’ve ever worn and worth the price. It’s always good to have a flat as well because they can pass for any dressy occasion and be worn with shorts, jeans, or dresses when the weather is warm AND are super comfortable. New to the scene are the Chloe espadrilles as this season’s ‘it’ investment shoe. I am in love with the detailing. Personally for me, I can’t do the heel one as it’s just too high to move around with my kids, but I am seriously considering investing in the flat this year. The flats are on back-order in some stores and completely sold out in 3 others! I have found them in stock in 3 colors, 3 different places below, just click on whichever color you love! Here is the slide if you are interested in that style, and the heel wedge is HERE and here!

Levi’s:

Still here more than ever, it’s THE thing to have a pair of Levi’s. The one’s I have are the 501’s and they fit really great. I love how high the waist is, and it’s honestly cool again to have this on your back pocket! (coming from a time where plain pockets were the thing… but remember when 7’s and True Religion was the ONLY cool jean to have – the more gaudy the back pocket the better) Levi’s are the ‘it’ jean right now and luckily they are moderately priced and great for everyone. These are a great jean for spring and summer because of how they fit and how most of the legs aren’t skin tight. Which is pretty helpful in the winter when you are fitting into over-the-knee boots and oversized sweaters. But not is the time to break out your slouchy or straight leg jeans and emphasize your waist and ankles!

Wide-leg pants:

Thank goodness for a pant like these! Everyone can wear this style, there is just small little details that you want to look for. They are so comfortable and the look this year is to get them cropped! That way they flow perfectly AND you can wear them with flats and espadrille flats and you don’t trip over them at all. A plus if you can find them a little high waisted, then you can tuck in a tank, tee, or just wear a cute cropped shirt and it will meet the top of the pant perfectly. Places like Forever 21 have a few great ones, ASOS (which is a favorite of mine) and even H&M or Express will have them this year! Personally I like mine to be high waist, but tailored enough to fit the hips but not too much to crease. Then somewhat fitted in the high leg so that it falls right and just doesn’t look like a huge straw the whole way down. Anthro does them well and it’s worth investing in a good pair like a navy or pin stripe.

I hope these 5 staple items have helped you get an idea of what to shop for if you plan on shopping for spring and don’t know where to start. I also hope the staple items help you not feel as overwhelmed as retailers try to throw everything ‘trendy’ in your face, and while it’s pretty, you don’t need it. Staple items are meant to last you at least the entire season and well into another. This is why I want to stress that it’s important to get the right items and sometimes, necessary to splurge so that you get quality. I definitely dug into my favorite sites, analyzed stock and sizes, and scoured the internet for my favorite items… not just ‘any old things’! Lastly, these are also items you could possibly have in your closets, so break them out and start wearing them!
