Trousers: the new legging?
You might have noticed the resurgence of the trouser, which is pulling inspo more from the oversized 90’s style and less from our day to night Express trousers that we all wore from the end of college and throughout our clubbing days of our 20’s. The oversized and baggy trouser these days highlights the front pleat and is kind of a style that would’ve horrified those of us dancing on bars in our mid-20’s. But we can evolve with our trend taste and this style has grown on me, so we’re going to talk about how to wear it and make it our own.
There are some styled trends I can see out there, and try, but realize they might not be for me or my body type. Or even my true style. Long wide leg baggy jeans is one of those for me. After some trial and error, I have realized I have to style it my way no matter what. Personally, I prefer to show my ankle. I love a crop. I like a high waist so that I can cinch my waist in one way or another. And I have fallen in love with barrel leg. I have recently found COS, who’s clothes I really love for a classic style that is trend forward. And stumbled upon not only their barrel trousers, but a few of them are cropped. I tried them and just love them. I’m so happy to see more materials come on board for the barrel style. This is a specific trend that even if it comes and goes, I will probably wear some version of it because it’s so flattering and puts a little spice into an ordinary outfit. I’ve even found barrel sweatpants and just cannot get enough.
Going back to the trouser, I have seen this be able to be done for more than just workwear. Pairing them with a stylish sneaker and a simple tee is a great way to be put together regardless of your title. I do see that it’s hard out here in the suburbs to sometimes trade out our leggings for anything else. Right now, I am personally in a phase where I’m either going to the gym, working from home, cleaning that home, or running my kids around town. Leggings are such a safe choice for all of these things. But a cute little trouser can be too.
Here are some of my notes for a few ways to style them, which applies to now, but also into Spring!
- cardigan worn as a shirt
- simple favorite Amazon tee
- add a fashion sneaker
- try a fun leather bomber jacket
- a sleek turtleneck is always an easy choice and keeps you not looking frumpy
- a stylish sweatshirt is one of my favorites!
- a tee poking out of a plain sweater is the look
- add a bright colored sneaker
