What to Wear for Summer Family Photos
I know I’ve been talking a little more about back to school shopping lately, but that’s because the time is here and great deals are going on. Today, right now, you need to mark your calendars and set aside some time this weekend to go to the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta! This is where I was a few weekends ago taking over their IG stories and hosting a fun BTS party and activities, all while shopping the outdoor center. I’m back to tell you about a major event there this weekend! There will be fun activities for the kids going on both Saturday and Sunday, while parents can shop for the latest trends… for either themselves OR the kiddies. I encourage you to come out because it’s not often that you can actually shop (or go anywhere for that matter) where the kids are taken care of and have distractions other than running up and down store aisles or hanging from chandeliers… trust me, I know. There will be music, characters, giveaways, and crafts to make the whole process easier.
We are all wearing our amazing finds from the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta in our family photo outfit shoot. I get asked a lot what to wear for family photo outfit ideas, and here are my recommendations. First of all, if you need to shop, get things you will wear the rest of the year as well. There is no need to buy something extravagant just for photos. Well, unless you are going to NYFW… jkjk. Second, I like neutrals of colors that make you look brighter, with the background having all the color. This is actually one of my family photo outfit shoots because of the colors, time of day, and the way our outfits kind of came together on film. That certainly wasn’t planned when shopping (which I don’t recommend, totally think about it), but I kept gravitating to soft pinks and whites, so it ended up turning out. I did know I wanted a yellow/green colorful background, because originally we were going to a sunflower field. Which closed the day before, so that’s the second time my experience with sunflowers literally died. More on that later… Make sure you are comfortable for the weather. There is nothing worse than sweating in layers in the summer, or shivering and forcing smiles in the winter. Stay away from loud patterns, save those for fun shoots, but probably not for family photos you want to frame. You want the family members to stand out, not the clothes.
If you need to know where a specific item is from, it will be in the ‘shop the post’ below. Here’s the rundown: I found amazing deals here. J.Crew Factory is having 60% off of everything in the store, Carter’s has the best prices for complete outfits, and Off 5th has the perfect selection for the stylish mom. Oh, and the Nike store there is insane and honestly, such good prices for shoes! Check my IG stories and I’ll show you the shoes I got for Robert for $50!!! You will die. He isn’t wearing them in these pics because a sleeker shoe went a little bit better. The dress I’m wearing in the pics with Robert is from Off 5th and the brand is Mink Pink. I cannot tell you how many people have inquired about it, and what is crazy is that I’ve seen boutiques selling it for $70! I’m not kidding you, because that brand is a really good one! I got mine for $35 at the Outlet Shoppes, so you need to get it because everyone needs a silky shift dress!
I wanted to give you a little background on this beautiful family photo outfit shoot. We honestly did it at the best time of day (golden hour) and Lindsay Gowland Photography (FB page here ) captured it beautifully! However, both kids did not nap that day, so both fell asleep on the way there… at 7pm. So they were grumpy when waking up and definitely didn’t want to take pictures, just hang on us and whine. We bribed Jackson with a sucker and Elston really never came out of it until she went to bed that night… which was of course, later than usual. But that’s parenthood and we’ll have these precious grumpy faces forever! Robert and I did get a few by ourselves which we probably haven’t done since we got engaged, so that’s a win.
Ok you guys… If you mention this blog post to Guest Services (located inside the Food Court) within the month of August, you will get a free coupon book to shop the entire shopping center. It is usually $5 and has a ton of coupons on top of savings with 20-70% of your fave brands. Let me know if you make a trip there, I would love to know what you find! It’s honestly not that far up I-575 and so easy to get in and out of because it’s literally right off the highway! I hope you all have a great weekend, happy shopping!
Well this picture and the next pretty much sums up where we are in life…
