We are so excited about our backyard, our new oasis! You’ve probably seen our playhouse that we decided to get for the kids, but we’ve also done a few other things. I’ll show you some before and afters because to us, it changed our entire backyard. So a quick story from the beginning, when we moved in, the grass stopped and pine trees started up this tiny hill. One day Robert decided he was going to hand cut the pine trees down. I think I have video of him doing this in our hard drive somewhere from my old phone because it was so hilarious and I told him not to do it. About 6 months later, nature decided to fight back, and a crazy amount of weeds and random tiny trees grew back in its place. It would die every winter, but every summer, would come back full force… it was crazy.

Backyard Makeover Ideas

This summer we finally decided to invest in our backyard. My initial thoughts were that if we were going to get pregnant this fall, I needed the kids to be able to have somewhere to go when I was exhausted. I wanted to create a backyard oasis for them and luckily they love it, and its done its job. We tore down the hill and laid down some sod. I partnered with Home Depot for patio furniture and our fire pit, and we cannot love them more! Everything is so comfortable, I don’t know if I could do wayfair ever again no seeing this, because our Home Depot stuff is so well made. We got the kids a swing set that also has a playhouse, which has proved to be the best choice ever. We do movie nights in there and the kids play in it for hourssss… just like I intended! Then we had one final thing I was really wanting… a SpringFree Trampoline. When people found out we were getting one, they were like, you are crazy. I’m actually the smartest mom ever and here’s why!

Why a trampoline, and then, why SpringFree. Well, they are incredibly fun and our kids LOVE jumping and love trampolines wherever we would go. If a friend would have one, I would secretly die with worry the entire time they were on it. I knew there was one safe one out there and that was the one we were going to have. I can confidently say that SpringFree is the only one I would allow, so I began to research the company and the product. They are literally the only safe option for a backyard trampoline. If you check their website, you can learn their backstory. The company was founded by a parent, who believed in safety above everything, and that is their main focus. I watch testimonials and then their videos of how they set them up… to how exactly they work. There is even a video on their site where SpringFree can hold a car! (by accident of course, but it can!) The springs are actually flexible rods, and the framing is underneath, impossible to fall on. The edges are shock absorbent with no hard areas and the netting bounces you right back in. Obviously you have to be careful if your kids jump together which hold risks, but I have to referring my kids’ fighting anyway, so at least they are living their best 80’s childhood and wearing themselves out, only with the safety of 2019 lol!

You can customize your own with colors in the springs, legs, rods… it’s so cool! You can even have an embroidered name tag. There are also things to add like basketball hoops when kids get older, which this is obviously an investment that grows with you. I kept this in mind the entire time when thinking about the process. I understand it’s a big investment, and it’s also a big taker of space. But I will tell you that it’s 100% worth it. Our kids love it and it’s actually peace of mind having our trampoline out there. For so many reasons like, there is always somewhere to go out back. It’s the thing in the neighborhood everyone wants to be on, so our house is the place to be. With my kids being 3 and 5, that is great, because I’m not ready for them to go elsewhere to play. They don’t ask to go to trampoline parks anymore (I’m serious) which are costly, dirty, and dangerous. I know the helicopter mom in me is coming out, but at least this is an investment where the parents win as well as the kids.

We’ve done movies in sleeping bags on the trampoline, and in the summer, I’m really excited to put a sprinkler under there (the kids have no idea they haven’t lived yet until they do this!).
