NYFW: How To Look Chic While Layering

Since I live for layering in general, I figured I would dedicate a post to it. I do get questions on how to look chic doing this or that, and it’s definitely about well placed details. My fur coat is what saves me when its bitter cold, so I would say first, pick a really warm coat that also looks good on. The one I brought to New York with me honestly is the warmest ever. It’s fox and blocks out wind and is the only thing that keeps me warm. If you’re a new reader, I’ve shared about it before, being my best consignment find ever that probably lived a full life before entering my closet. So a good coat is step one. Then pick out tops that are eye catching but not too crazy. Like my full sequin sweater in white for example. It’s extra but white, so adding other layers to it doesn’t really mess up the look of it, or seem like too much.

When it comes to my shoes, I make sure they flatter. I haven’t hopped on the dad sneaker train yet and I probably won’t because they just aren’t flattering, and I like dressing to your body type. I usually choose a pointed toe shoe, whether it’s a heel or flat, it’s my favorite type, and won’t look too bulky no matter what you put with it.

This coat is the sweetest thing, and pretty much sums up the stage everyone is in right now. Pastel and light colors, winter layers and textures. It’s a reasonable price and you could really get some use out of it as it will be cold for another month or two. I paired jeans and whites with it here, but it would also look great with camel colors or even a full lilac outfit!

I was wearing my high waist mom jeans on this cold day in New York because they are movable and so comfortable, and I love where they hit on the ankle so they end where shoes can begin. And by these pictures below, you can see this is where my friend Leah was yelling from her fire escape at me!

Ashley and I traveled downtown this day to shoot some photos, and it was the coldest day we had while in New York, the wind was brutal. Luckily Leah lives right by Spring Studios where all the shows are, so we had a chance to change there in between everything going on. Ashley’s outfit is some pretty fierce layering, but we mainly had no choice because it was so cold, so… we made it fashion!
