Painting our house white

I’m excited to be sharing some home content like this! We just moved into our long-term home and are so excited. This is a move we anticipated for years and truly planned every detail to get us here. We looked at every possible Atlanta suburb for years and entertained everything, and are so happy with our decision to stay in Cumming. I never thought I would say that either… but this city gal has a love and appreciation for these horse farms and rolling hills up here. And it’s pretty ‘city’ out here now anyway, so when the quarantine happened and we didn’t have to be in Atlanta for anything, we knew our heart was here. So that’s a little back story, let’s talk about the house and its new coat of white exterior paint!

Painting our House with White Exterior Paint

We are so excited and fortunate to have found a 4 sided brick home. The neighborhood we are in is older, so most of the homes need a lot of renovations and updates. We knew that painting the brick white was a strong possibility along with a list of things to tackle for years to come! I just love a white painted brick house and really wanted to go for it. About a week after we moved in, I put in the HOA request for paint, as white houses in our neighborhood are quite the hot topic and it’s basically a race to be the first in your immediate vicinity (because they do not allow two white houses close to one another).

here is a pic of the house before we did anything… and before we even moved in lol. We had just purchased the home but still had 2 weeks before we moved in and creeped on our street on Halloween

then our doors put in. I did love this natural wood color as did many of you. I got the doors from Liquidators at Cumming. They were the best price for a set of doors in the area (this includes frame). We paid their install recommendation to have the installed, which was separate from the price of the doors. I grabbed the knobs from Home Depot.

We used a guy that was highly recommended by many neighbors, and him and his team of guys came out and had the house painted in 3 days. They were extremely nice, hard workers, and worked thoroughly. They did a great job!

I had an inspiration photo of this house in Brookhaven that kept coming up when I was searching for paint color inspo. I really just fell in love with the paint scheme of a creamy white home, grey shutters, and a blue/green door. The pic below was my inspo.

For paint color shades though, that’s a different story. I must have looked at over 25 shades of grey and then that color door. Do I want it to be more blue, more green, should I keep it wood? Most people told me to keep the door wood and just stain it. I mean, that is beautiful, but I feel like this color door is just ‘me’. I compared forever and finally decided on this one.

As far as the white to use on the house, I drove around our neighborhood and snapped photos of all the white houses, after getting way too overwhelmed online. Because also, it’s impossible to tell what the white will look like on the house especially because a good white will look cream/grey online or even on a paint swatch compared to an actual white white, which really you don’t want. So I just asked my friend Jessica who had hers painted because it looked beautiful in the sun, in the shade, and just was the perfect creamy white. So she made it easy for me and I just copied her lol.

The door color was back and forth for me, did I want more blue, more green? I wanted something to compliment the grey shutters because that was a color I knew I wanted with the white house. I didn’t want the look of white house and black shutters, I basically knew the feel I was going for so it was a matter of finding the right colors myself. I now know why people hire these kind of decision making things out! Overall, I’m so happy with how it turned out, and I am slowly learning about how to think about colors and decor from a home perspective. It comes much easier to me with clothes, so this is a learning process for me!

Here are the paint colors I finally decided on:
