It’s time to think about your warm weather staples! When the weather gets sweltering hot, you just want to be comfortable and cool, so shorts are the perfect way to look cute! Some people are scared of shorts, and that includes myself. I have never loved wearing shorts because of my legs and this goes all the way back to when I was in 5th grade. No joke, it’s sad that I worried about my body image back then, but I very specifically remember comparing my legs to other girls who had skinnier or were different. Now? I am comfortable in the body I was given and really don’t care, but I’ve conditioned myself to think twice about shorts when wearing them. I know other people have issues with shorts, but that is the other side of how you can look at this, and that is because they make shorts 2 ways, especially denim shorts. Either extremely short (been there done that when I was 18) or really long like in a non-chic-mom-jean way. Until now! There are finally some styles out there that fit, are long enough, high rise enough! Thank goodness retailers are hopping on board of high rise being the new normal rise. I still feel like this is slow to come with shorts, so it took some digging, but I found you the best fitting shorts out there for every kind of person!

Here’s a brief overview on my findings:

It’s always good to have dress shorts on hand to elevate your look, because shorts can look too casual really quickly. I am loving the ‘paperbag’ trend lately, this is mainly a high rise style with a tie and sometimes pleats. It can be really flattering, but be careful because it can also end up looking really pouchy. The higher and looser the better for this style.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a great basic pair of denim cut offs though, that’s like unAmerican or something! I am VERY picky about my denim shorts, they need to rise high enough, but not be too terribly short. The denim shorts have to be wide enough in the leg so it doesn’t look sausage-y, but effortless. This has been impossible to find over the years. I usually love Free People’s denim shorts because they are slightly raised on either side, but are usually still too short! This year, I haven’t found a FP short that is long enough or even this style, but I am absolutely loving Abercrombie’s high rise denim shorts this year. This one is definitely a winner!

Above pics are from last year’s denim shorts find and actually American Eagle, which I loved the style, but hated anything on the pocket. My wedges are on sale though! You can shop above outfit details below the shorts options.
